Today, I’m excited to introduce the American brand “MERRELL”‘s “AGILITY PEAK 5 BOA GORE-TEX”!
The “AGILITY PEAK” is a trail running shoe from Merrell that features waterproof material “GORE-TEX” and a fit adjustment system called “BOA”. It’s a high-end model from Merrell!
When you think of Merrell, you might imagine trekking shoes like “MOAB” or the incredibly comfortable “JUNGLE MOC”, which are more lifestyle-oriented products. However, they have recently focused on trail running shoes, sponsoring events and competitions, and putting considerable effort into this category!
They have released various trail running shoes, and among them, the popular AGILITY PEAK has been updated!
This product is not only suitable for activities but also stylish enough to wear in the city!

[MERRELL] AGILITY PEAK 5 BOA GORE-TEX
Design
Unlike other Merrell trail shoes, this one has a design that blends seamlessly into urban settings.
On the side, you’ll find the words “MERRELL” and “GORE-TEX.” The opposite side also features “GORE-TEX” and the model name “AGILITY PEAK”!
The text is in a monochromatic scheme for the black version, while it stands out in white with black lettering for the white version!
The upper is primarily made of knit material, and the parts that are prone to wear are reinforced with “TPU”!
As you can see from the side view, the outsole (bottom of the shoe) features prominent lugs.
This relates to functionality; these protrusions are called “lugs,” and the higher they are, the better they grip the ground, reducing the risk of slipping!
These lugs are designed to be 5mm high, which is considered high for Merrell shoes.
Functionality
Exceptional Grip with Outsole
This outsole also features soles made by the Italian company “Vibram,” which is highly regarded for its slip resistance and abrasion resistance, specifically the superior “Vibram MEGA GRIP.”
This ensures that the shoes are slip-resistant not only on regular roads but also on wet surfaces and mountain trails!
Comfort with Ample Cushioning
The comfort level is excellent; despite the thick sole, it doesn’t sink too much or feel too hard, providing remarkable cushioning!
This is due to the use of “Float Pro” in the midsole, which is the part of the sole that absorbs shocks when walking!
The image below is a simple schematic of the internal sole structure, showing how Float Pro excels in cushioning while also balancing lightweight and durability, which is usually difficult to achieve!
The midsole also features grooves running both vertically and horizontally, allowing for smooth flexion in any direction!
The insole is made of cushioning material as well and features anti-odor treatment, while being removable for easy washing!
At the very bottom of the sole, there is a hard plate called a “rock plate,” which protects against protrusions from the ground.
This is placed only in the front area where the weight tends to bear when running.
Waterproof and Breathable Upper
The upper part is also high-functionality, primarily made of lightweight and breathable mesh fabric.
Moreover, it features waterproof and breathable “GORE-TEX” material, making it completely waterproof despite its appearance! No matter how much it rains, water won’t seep inside!
The shoe’s unique “BOA system” allows for easy adjustment just by turning a dial, making it simpler than adjusting shoelaces!
This feature has been well-received, especially by those who have difficulty tying shoelaces due to physical issues!
