Today, I’d like to introduce a legendary trekking shoe from MERRELL: CHAMELEON STORM REDUX JAPAN GORE-TEX.

The first model of the CHAMELEON series was released in 2001 and quickly gained strong support from outdoor enthusiasts. Since then, the line has evolved through several generations, including the CHAMELEON 8 STORM GORE-TEX, becoming one of MERRELL’s most iconic and popular models.
However, the series was unfortunately discontinued about 4–5 years ago and disappeared from the market. Despite that, we continued to receive many inquiries about it. Now, this highly requested model has finally made a comeback for the 2026 Spring/Summer season as a Japan-exclusive release.

Design of the CHAMELEON STORM REDUX
Rugged Design That Recreates the Original Look
Just like the original CHAMELEON STORM, the upper uses distinctive materials that faithfully recreate the look and atmosphere of the classic model.
Compared with the previous model, the CHAMELEON 8, the sole is slightly thicker, giving the shoe a more substantial and modern appearance.
Sporty Look with Speed Shoelaces
Previous models used traditional shoelaces, but this version features a speed shoelace system.
You can easily adjust the fit by pressing the button, making the shoes quick and easy to put on and take off.
In addition, a rubber band is included to store the extra lace, preventing it from dangling while walking.
Wide Range of Color Options
The available colors include:
Black
Olive
Red
Yellow
These options range from calm, versatile tones to vibrant colors that stand out at festivals and outdoor events.
In previous CHAMELEON series models, bold colorways were surprisingly popular, and this lineup will certainly appeal to longtime fans who remember the original releases.
Performance Features of the CHAMELEON STORM REDUX
Durable Rugged Mesh Upper
The iconic upper material of the CHAMELEON STORM features rugged mesh with a tread-plate style design.
This material provides excellent abrasion resistance and high durability even in demanding outdoor environments.
In addition, the surface features a water-repellent finish, helping to keep water and dirt from sticking to the shoe.
Fully Waterproof with GORE-TEX
Inside the shoe, GORE-TEX waterproof and breathable technology is used.
It prevents rain and water from entering the shoe while allowing moisture and heat to escape, keeping your feet comfortable even during long periods of wear.
The inner lining also uses mesh material, which helps reduce heat buildup and improve breathability.
MERRELL Original Outsole
Previous models used a Vibram outsole, but this version features a rubber outsole developed exclusively by MERRELL.
Although it is not a Vibram sole, it utilizes MERRELL’s long-developed technology and provides excellent durability and reliable grip for outdoor use.
High Cushioning with FloatMax Foam
The midsole features MERRELL’s proprietary FloatMax Foam.
This material is lightweight and highly resilient, and it is also used in MERRELL’s recovery sandals.
While the cushioning is excellent, compared with MERRELL’s popular trekking shoes MOAB, the feel is slightly firmer and more supportive.
This provides stable and secure walking performance, making it well suited for outdoor environments.
Size Range
The shoes are available in unisex sizing.
Available sizes: 22.0 cm – 30.0 cm
The fit is generally true to size, so choosing the same size you usually wear should work well.
However, since the smaller sizes are based on men’s sizing, women may want to pay extra attention when selecting their size.
