Today, I’d like to introduce a legendary trekking shoe from MERRELL: CHAMELEON STORM REDUX JAPAN GORE-TEX.

Price: ¥22,000 (+ tax)

The first model of the CHAMELEON series was released in 2001 and quickly gained strong support from outdoor enthusiasts. Since then, the line has evolved through several generations, including the CHAMELEON 8 STORM GORE-TEX, becoming one of MERRELL’s most iconic and popular models.

However, the series was unfortunately discontinued about 4–5 years ago and disappeared from the market. Despite that, we continued to receive many inquiries about it. Now, this highly requested model has finally made a comeback for the 2026 Spring/Summer season as a Japan-exclusive release.

Design of the CHAMELEON STORM REDUX

Rugged Design That Recreates the Original Look

Just like the original CHAMELEON STORM, the upper uses distinctive materials that faithfully recreate the look and atmosphere of the classic model.

Compared with the previous model, the CHAMELEON 8, the sole is slightly thicker, giving the shoe a more substantial and modern appearance.

Sporty Look with Speed Shoelaces

Previous models used traditional shoelaces, but this version features a speed shoelace system.

You can easily adjust the fit by pressing the button, making the shoes quick and easy to put on and take off.

In addition, a rubber band is included to store the extra lace, preventing it from dangling while walking.

Wide Range of Color Options

The available colors include:

• Red
• Yellow

These options range from calm, versatile tones to vibrant colors that stand out at festivals and outdoor events.

In previous CHAMELEON series models, bold colorways were surprisingly popular, and this lineup will certainly appeal to longtime fans who remember the original releases.

Durable Rugged Mesh Upper

The iconic upper material of the CHAMELEON STORM features rugged mesh with a tread-plate style design.

This material provides excellent abrasion resistance and high durability even in demanding outdoor environments.

In addition, the surface features a water-repellent finish, helping to keep water and dirt from sticking to the shoe.

Fully Waterproof with GORE-TEX

Inside the shoe, GORE-TEX waterproof and breathable technology is used.

It prevents rain and water from entering the shoe while allowing moisture and heat to escape, keeping your feet comfortable even during long periods of wear.

The inner lining also uses mesh material, which helps reduce heat buildup and improve breathability.

MERRELL Original Outsole

Previous models used a Vibram outsole, but this version features a rubber outsole developed exclusively by MERRELL.

Although it is not a Vibram sole, it utilizes MERRELL’s long-developed technology and provides excellent durability and reliable grip for outdoor use.

High Cushioning with FloatMax Foam

The midsole features MERRELL’s proprietary FloatMax Foam.

This material is lightweight and highly resilient, and it is also used in MERRELL’s recovery sandals.

While the cushioning is excellent, compared with MERRELL’s popular trekking shoes MOAB, the feel is slightly firmer and more supportive.

This provides stable and secure walking performance, making it well suited for outdoor environments.

Size Range

The shoes are available in unisex sizing.

Available sizes: 22.0 cm – 30.0 cm

The fit is generally true to size, so choosing the same size you usually wear should work well.

However, since the smaller sizes are based on men’s sizing, women may want to pay extra attention when selecting their size.

【CHROME】VOLCAN 35L PACK

Compared to previous VOLCAN models, the new version offers a larger capacity while being lighter, making it more user-friendly than ever.

Recently, more customers have been searching for 35–40L backpacks, especially from brands like CHROME. For those who want a bag that’s both spacious and easy to carry, this is a highly recommended option!

While many other brands also offer square-shaped backpacks, the VOLCAN stands out with its unique “top opening design”. Unlike most models that open from the back panel, the VOLCAN opens toward the far side when worn on the front. This feature makes it much easier to access your belongings, even in tight spaces like trains!

Storage Space

Let’s take a closer look at the storage spaces!

Main Compartment

The main compartment features the same full-open design as the previous model, the “VOLCAN PACK PLUS.” This makes it easy to check and retrieve your belongings!

A new addition to the VOLCAN series is a top pocket! This feature wasn’t available in previous models.

As with previous VOLCAN models, there’s a Velcro-style front storage space.

This time, the internal pocket layout has been slightly updated, and a new fleece-lined pocket has been added. This allows you to store tablets and other delicate items outside of the main compartment!

The new design also features a side-accessible pocket, further enhancing usability.

Side Pocket

Unlike the “VOLCAN PACK PLUS,” which had dual side pockets, the new model features a single, larger pocket on one side.

This pocket is connected internally to the main compartment, making it easier to retrieve items.

Bottle Pocket

As with the previous VOLCAN models, the new version includes bottle pockets on both sides!

This time, the bottle pockets are made of elastic material, which helps maintain the bag’s sleek silhouette when not in use. This thoughtful update improves functionality and aesthetics!

Other Updates

Shoulder Straps

The new model introduces a curved design for the shoulder straps, offering better comfort and fit, especially for long-term use.

There’s also increased space to attach CHROME accessories like the “PHONE POUCH,” enhancing expandability!

Back Panel

Today, I’d like to introduce two new items for the Fall/Winter 2024 collection from the American bag brand MYSTERY RANCH: the SUPERSET 24 & 32.

What is MYSTERY RANCH?

Let me briefly explain the brand, MYSTERY RANCH…

Founded in the U.S. in 2000, MYSTERY RANCH is an outdoor brand.

Its founders, Dana Gleason and Renee Sippel-Baker, have long pursued the development of durable, comfortable backpacks, aiming to create the world’s best load-bearing backpacks, which is the core mission of MYSTERY RANCH.

The brand offers highly functional bags, even used by the U.S. Navy SEALs. Some of their most iconic bags include:

Bags with Y-shaped zippers for easy access to items at the bottom, materials that don’t make noise for hunters to avoid scaring off game, and military-grade specifications. MYSTERY RANCH offers a wide range of bags, from everyday items to hunting, military, and mountaineering bags.

SUPERSET 24 & 32

Basic Information

The SUPERSET, which I’m introducing today from MYSTERY RANCH, is a daypack designed for everyday use, commuting, and gym trips, available in two sizes!

Previously, there was a product called the “SUPERSET 30,” but it has been discontinued. The two new items were introduced as part of the Fall/Winter 2024 collection with an updated design!

Although they share the same name as the previous model, this is not just a number change. The new models are significantly different, so please consider them as entirely new bags.

SUPERSET 32

・Dimensions: H51cm × W29cm × D27cm
・Weight: 1.3kg

SUPERSET 24

・Dimensions: H46cm × W27cm × D26cm
・Weight: 1.1kg
・Capacity: 26L

As the name suggests, the larger model has a 32L capacity. However, despite having “24” in its name, the smaller model actually holds 26L.

Both sizes come equipped with a chest strap and waist strap.

The waist strap comes with velcro, so you can secure it neatly when not in use, avoiding any inconvenience.

Additionally, both straps are detachable, allowing you to streamline the bag when they’re not needed.

The shoulder straps are padded, and the back panel also features firm padding for additional comfort.

The 32L model also includes these straps, which can be tightened to stabilize your load for better weight distribution!

On the top, there are four handles. When you’re sweating or need a break from wearing it on your back, you can carry it like a handheld bag, or hang it from a locker using these handles.

Storage Space

Now, let’s take a closer look at the storage space!

Since there are some differences between the two sizes, we’ll start by introducing the smaller model and then highlight the differences in the larger one!

Main Compartment

The top flap is equipped with drawstrings and buckles, and when opened, it leads directly to the main compartment.

One side features a zipper, so you can access your belongings without having to open the top flap every time—perfect for when you’re wearing the bag!

The zippers extend both up and down, providing easy access to items stored at the bottom of the bag!

The interior also features mesh pockets for easy access when opening the side zipper, along with expandable pockets and a padded laptop sleeve!

The base of the bag is padded to protect your belongings, and the laptop sleeve is raised from the bottom to prevent your device from touching the ground when you set the bag down.

This sleeve is also hydration-pack compatible, and there’s a hole on the back to route the hydration tube.

Additionally, the bag includes loops for attaching quickdraws, carabiners, and other climbing gear!

The top strap is normally secured with velcro, but it can be extended to carry items beyond the bag’s normal capacity!

Just be careful not to lose this velcro, as it isn’t sewn onto the bag.

Side Pockets

Both sides of the bag feature elastic bottle pockets, perfect for keeping your water bottles secure!

On the side with the zipper leading to the main compartment, there’s a horizontally oriented pocket designed for easy access, even while you’re wearing the backpack. On the opposite side, there is an additional internal pocket for extra storage.

Top Pocket

The flap at the top of the bag is also a pocket, providing convenient storage space!

In addition, there’s a smaller zippered pocket for items you need to keep secure.

Extra Features of the 32L Version

That wraps up the storage features of the smaller size. Now let’s look at what sets the larger 32L version apart!

In addition to the features found in the smaller model, the 32L version includes an extra zipper on the side that connects directly to the main laptop compartment.

The bottom of the 32L model also has a separate compartment, ideal for storing shoes or other items you want to keep separate.

Even the side pockets have slight variations for more versatility.

I’m Shimada, a staff member at the outdoor shop “FITTWO” in Ueno!

Today, I’ll introduce the new specifications of the CHROME keychain, comparing it with the previous model.

MINI BUCKLE KEYCHAIN🔑

Introduction

The keychain’s main attraction is that it allows you to attach your keys to the outside of your bag, so you don’t have to open the bag to take them out.

Additionally, it uses CHROME’s signature buckle, making it easy to detach with one touch!

Comparison with the Previous Model

The most significant change from the previous model is the specification of the belt loop used to attach it to the bag.

It has been changed from a button type to a plastic hook, improving durability.

However, attaching it has become a bit more complicated, so I’ll explain it with photos.

Also, the position of the reflector and the shape of the buckle have changed.

How to Attach and Detach

First, pinch the center and the tip of the plastic hook of the belt loop together.
(Be careful, as it might be a bit stiff.)

The metal part will detach, so remove the belt without the metal part from the hook.

Next, loop the belt around the desired attachment point.

Finally, pass the belt through the hook and reattach the metal part to complete the process!

It will go smoothly if you pinch the center of the hook while reattaching the metal part!

Please follow the same steps to detach it.

Conclusion

It might be a bit tricky to detach the hook at first, but once you get used to it, you’ll find it easy to do!

Once attached, the hook is securely fastened with the metal part, so you don’t have to worry about it coming off accidentally!
Although the previous button type never came off, the new model offers even more peace of mind.

The new model also features the word “CHROME” engraved on the buckle and comes in a rainbow color option, making it recommended even for those who own the previous model!
